Betfred Championship Preview | Round 6

It’s Sunday Funday in the Betfred Championship with all nine fixtures happening on that day in Round 6.

Dewsbury and Barrow are back in action this weekend and will face off for the first time since 2024.

Their last two encounters were drop goal deciders – will we witness another thriller as both teams look to climb the league ladder?

The Dons meet with Goole this upcoming weekend. Richard Horne’s men will be full of confidence following their big win over Salford, whilst Goole will hope to bounce back after suffering defeat to fellow Vikings in the league, Widnes.

It’s positive news for ‘Fax fans, as a new Halifax Panthers club has been approved to participate in the 2026 Championship competition.

They will host the high-flying London Broncos at The Shay. Read more on this here.

It’s been 12 years since North Wales and Batley went head-to-head. The Crusaders experienced a tough outing against the Broncos in Round 5, whereas the Bulldogs were on the right side of a healthy score-line against Swinton Lions.

Will Sheffield continue their unbeaten run? Along with London, Craig Lingard’s side are the only team to have also enjoyed a perfect start to the 2026 season.

Sheffield have won their last five away meetings with Rochdale – the opposition they will travel to play on Sunday.

The Hornets have struggled in the past two rounds and will be hopeful of avoiding another loss.

They last met with the Eagles in 2019 and endured heavy defeats (46-24) and (16-52).

In fact, Rochdale’s most recent home victory against Sheffield came in July 2002.

Meanwhile, bottom of the table Swinton are still searching for their first victory but have a challenge on their hands when Newcastle Thunder pay a visit to Heywood Road.

At the same time, Widnes will be entertaining Hunslet, with the Chemics keen to keep tabs on the table topping Broncos.

Allan Coleman’s men currently occupy second spot and are level on points with London.

London, however, have a game in hand.

Did you know that Widnes’ Matty Fozard has scored tries in the Vikings' last three meetings with Hunslet? How important will their number 14 be on Sunday?

It’s all happening in Cumbria. Both Whitehaven and Workington earned their first points of the year last weekend and will play hosts to Midlands Hurricanes and Salford RLFC respectively.

Can Haven claim back-to-back wins on home turf?
